What Sharon said: I heard a sweet, gentle song while painting...My Favorite Picture of You by Guy Clark. There was an air of nostalgia and loss that made me smile and want to cry, when I listened to the words. I though, this is what happens when people paint someone they've lost.... a relative, a ap pet dog or cat, a lost love. This workshop is about that, being emotionally attached to what you're painting because of love. You will supply you own acrylics, texture medium, gloss medium and a large brush. Minimum 30" x 30" deep canvas or larger. Your reference photo needs to be candid, not posed - a subject caught in a moment of life.

Softcut printing blocks are designed to be easy to cut, suitable for everyone including beginners, and a press isn't required. Lino uses hard linolium to carve. Lino cuts are inked and run through a press that we have rented from Martha Street Studio for the workshop. Paper used for both is Stonehenge, and a supply will be available to you also. Anne will bring inks, blocks and lino, and tools to share. If you have your own tools for carving, bring those, and if you have Stonehenge of you own you could bring that tooo. PYSANKY - from pusaty , meaning "to write" - are raw eggs painted with a wax-resistent method. Designs are "written" in hot wax with a stylus called a kistka, which has a small funnel attached to hole a small amount of liquid wax. The word that is used to describe the egg actually comes from the Ukrainian verb pysaty, which means "to write". Irene will share her extensive knowledge and skill in this centuries-old art form. You will need to bring a tapered candle, candlestick holder, paper towels, rubber gloves, a cover-up and newspaper to cover your table. *We need a supply of wide-mouthed mason jars, in advance, to mix up the dyes. If you can donate one or two, please leave on the counter in the big gallery.
